Full picnic-style meals and large coolers are not permitted inside the Park.
Guests are welcome to enjoy a picnic-style meal at one of our picnic areas located outside the admissions gates prior to or after your Zoo visit..
Do you have to wear a mask at the NC Zoo?
Acrylic barriers are in place at guest and staff interaction areas. Social distancing markers are placed at all animal viewing areas to help remind guests to keep a safe distance from other groups. All Zoo staff will be wearing masks for everyone’s protection.

For the rest of the zoo, summer morning or late at night is the best time because animals are active at these times and it’s not as crowded. Also, most animals take naps or are transferred around during the afternoon so they are visible or aren’t as entertaining.
